Hey Newarkers,
Well, just when I thought I knew about all of Newark’s wonderful, burgeoning communities I get surprised! Newark has a flourishing tech community. Now don’t blame me for not knowing about this prominent culture of Brick City techies, after all I am the woman who thought Mashable.com was going to be a site featuring all the different foods you could mash. However, this community is perfect for folk like me as well as hardcore tech geeks. On Thursday, one of Newark’s larger groups, Brick City Tech, hosted a meet up with Chris Guillebeau, the author of the acclaimed, New York Times Bestseller The $100 Startup. This event attracted entrepreneurs, students, and professionals of all ages from Newark and surrounding areas. Guillebeau spoke briefly about his book and the art of reinventing the way we work. He also signed free copies of his book.
The event organizers Anthony Fraiser of The Phat Startup and Emily Manz of BCDC brought Guillebeau to Newark as a prequel to Newark’s upcoming Tech Week (April 1-8) a week long event in collaboration with Blerdology featuring TEDxTalk, #Blackhack, and workshops.
It was great to be in the room with so many Newarkers doing amazing work! Our city is still doing great things.
